Information for Vocologists

First things first. What is a vocologist? Vocology is defined as the science and practice of voice habilitation. [Do not let it escape your attention that habilitation carries a broader definition as compared to rehabilitation.]. Thus, a vocologist is a professional with training in this subspecialty. Vocologists are often speech-language pathologists, but may also be voice trainers or educators, or otolaryngologists.

Prescribed Medications and Their Effects on Voice and Speech
In tabular form, the 200 most frequently-prescribed medications are presented in alphabetical order, along with their effects (if any) on voice or speech production.

The Training of the Speech-Language Pathologist in Voice
A brief summary provides results of a 1994 (and 1999 follow-up) questionnaire distributed to all U.S. accredited programs of speech-language pathology. The surveys sought to determine exposure to didactic coursework and clinical experience in voice for speech-language pathology graduate students.
