Grant NIDCD 1 R01-DC04224, "Research Toward Occupational Safety
in Vocalization"
This project aims to : 1) design and construct a dosimeter (Poster presentation at ASA Cancun, Dec. 2002),
(Powerpoint presentation
at The Voice Foundation, Phil., June 2003), Supplementary
photo for Adaptation of a Pocket PC for use as a wearable voice dosimeter
(.jpg image), J Speech Lang Hear Res. (in press); 2) measure the daily
and weekly dose received by approximately 120 teachers on the job; 3)
provide a voice-economy oriented therapy program to a subset of about
60 of these; 4) relate vibration dose at the larynx to vocal output; 5)
relate auto-perceptive measures of recovery time to vocal fatigue, short
term rest periods and tissue health; and 6) to provide amplification to
another 20 teachers who are in a classroom setting.
