Pavarobotti, singing robot,
(in seclusion)
Pavarobotti
is a singing robot that represents the voice simulation research
of Dr. Ingo Titze and colleagues at The University of Iowa and
the Denver Center for the Performing Arts. He is shown singing
an aria with his creator Dr. Titze.
Pavarobotti's voice is actually a sophisticated computer model
that quantifies physical laws derived by observing tissue and
air in motion. The model integrates data from many investigations
of
airflow, mechanical properties of human tissue, and other speech
production studies. Fans of Pavarobotti have heard him perform at The University of
Iowa, Denver Center for the Performing Arts, Northwestern University,
University of North Texas, University of Northern Iowa, the Voice
Foundation's Care of the Professional Voice Symposium, and Brigham
Young University.
Pavarobotti displayed his talent with host, Scott Simon, on National
Public Radio's All Things Considered. He has been featured widely
in other (and diverse) media as well, including a German television
program, an Italian newspaper, and The National Examiner.
