Mona Abaza, M.D.

is a research associate for the National Center for Voice and Speech and Assistant Professor of Otolaryngology/Head & Neck Surgery at the University of Colorado School of Medicine. She completed her laryngology fellowship in June of l999, specializing in care of the professional voice with Dr. Robert T. Sataloff at the American Institute of Voice and Ear Research in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Prior to that, she received her medical degree from The Medical College of Pennsylvania and completed a two-year research fellowship at the National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders, National Institutes of Health. A board-certified ENT surgeon, she completed her otolaryngology training at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. She was elected to the American Bronchoesophagology Association in 2003 (a society of otolaryngologists with an interest/emphasis in voice and airway problems) and the Society of University Otolaryngologists in 2002 (a society of academic otolaryngologists in significant roles in education and research). Dr. Abaza maintains an active role in the American Academy of Otolaryngology/Head and Neck Surgery (the national association of otolaryngologists) by her election to several committees, including the Neurolaryngology subcommittee (a groups of voice doctors with interests in neurologic voice problems).

Dr. Abaza’s practice focuses on voice problems of professional voice users and the general public. She divides her time each week between the University of Colorado Hospital Voice Practice at the NCVS (where she sees actors, singers and the public for voice problems), University Hospital (where she performs surgery), the ENT Specialists Clinic at the Anschutz Outpatient Pavillion at the Fitzsimmons campus (where she also sees patients), various NCVS research teams (where she works on clinical research grants) and at the Department of Otolaryngology at UCHSC, where she runs the otolaryngology residency training program and teaches.
