The Denver home of the National Center for Voice and Speech is located at the Denver Center for the Performing Arts. Founded by DCPA Chairman Donald R. Seawell and the late Wilbur James Gould, M.D., this unique voice research and clinical care facility is the only center of its kind in the world which is a division of a major performing arts organization. Now under the direction of Ingo R. Titze, Ph.D., the Denver division of the NCVS is actively exploring four main research areas: the occupational use of the voice, engineering the lamina propria of the vocal folds, the efficacy of LSVT® on Parkinson's Disease, and the unique characteristics, capabilities and health problems of elite performers. The Iowa site of the NCVS is located in the Department of Speech Pathology and Audiology at The University of Iowa. The UI Department of Speech Pathology and Audiology is one of the discipline's oldest and largest
programs, training students and serving clients with speech, language, and hearing disorders for more than 60 years. U.S. News and World Report again ranked Iowa as the top graduate program in speech-language pathology and audiology. Richard Hurtig, PhD, serves as departmental chair. Although the numbers vary from year to year, the department's student population is comprised of approximately 25 doctoral, 50 master's, and 175 undergraduate students.
